Ecostar’s Sustainability Pledge

Here at Ecostar, we are serious about sustainability. All of us have a responsibility to help mitigate climate change, and we are committed to doing our part.

The effects of climate change are already being felt here in Australia. A study conducted by Oxford University on the bushfire season of 2019-2020 concluded that human-induced climate change made bushfires 30% more likely. It’s hard to argue with that assessment. Since 2000, we have seen increasingly large fires that have burned with horrific intensity, killed hundreds of people and millions of animals and destroyed vast swathes of our countryside. 

Bushfires are not the only problem. Disrupted rainfall patterns have led to severe droughts and flooding, and we’ve lost more than a third of the Great Barrier Reef because of changing sea temperatures. Climate change also led to a 22% decrease in profitability for Australian farms between 2009 and 2019, directly contributing to rising food prices. Climate change isn’t some far-off problem for future generations to sort out; it’s happening now and right at our door. 

It isn’t all doom and gloom though. There are things we can do to improve the world, and we can start by taking lessons from Europe. Decades ago, our friends in the northern hemisphere began adopting more environmentally friendly products into their everyday lives. Spurred on by the desire to reduce carbon emissions and their energy bills, they began looking at ways to improve their homes. 

Today, things like double glazed windows and solar panels are commonplace in Europe. At Ecostar, we want to see a similar approach here in Australia and all our products are designed to be as thermally efficient and environmentally friendly as possible. We believe that fighting climate change begins at home, and while we can’t help you install solar panels, we can certainly replace your windows with something greener.

We’re especially passionate about double glazing. It’s been described as the “unsung hero” in the fight against climate change at the World Economic Forum, which is why we sing its praises so much. Some people think double glazing is only useful in colder areas, but this is a myth. Even in warmer regions, it can make a significant difference in regulating the temperature in your house. 

We take our corporate responsibility seriously too. We use renewable energy sources to manufacture all our products, and each of our factories has been fitted with solar panels for over ten years. Our logistical arm is designed to be as energy efficient as possible too. We support the International Maritime Organisation and Global Maritime Technology Cooperation Centres in their efforts to reduce greenhouse gases. This includes utilising solar-powered vessels and trialling alternative fuel sources.
